Description: The Historical and Anthropological Museum Mauricio van de Maele is located on Isla Teja in a typical nineteenth century household that belonged to the leader of the German colonization, Mr Carlos Anwandter, which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1981. The museum was founded in 1967. It displays samples of the Mapuche Culture, Spanish and German colonization. It has diverse and valuable collections that provide insight into the history of our regional and national multi-ethnic society. It is installed in front of the river and in the center of the city of Valdivia, it is part of the Museum Direction and of the Culture and Arts Campus of University Austral of Chile (UACh). Next to the Museum you may find the Museum of Contemporary Art - MAC - regularly displaying rotating art exhibitions.
