Museum Mauricio Van de Maele

Description: The Historical and Anthropological Museum Mauricio van de Maele is located on Isla Teja in a typical nineteenth century household that belonged to the leader of the German colonization, Mr Carlos Anwandter, which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1981. The museum was founded in 1967. It displays samples of the Mapuche Culture, Spanish and German colonization. It has diverse and valuable collections that provide insight into the history of our regional and national multi-ethnic society. It is installed in front of the river and in the center of the city of Valdivia, it is part of the Museum Direction and of the Culture and Arts Campus of University Austral of Chile (UACh). Next to the Museum you may find the Museum of Contemporary Art - MAC - regularly displaying rotating art exhibitions.

Museum Phillipi


Admission: Paid.
Opening Times: January 1 closed. January 2 to 4, from 10.00 to 13.00 h / 14.00 to 18.00 h. January 5 to February 28 Monday to Sunday from 10.00 to 20.00 h continued. March 1 to December 31 Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 13.00 h / 14.00 to 18.00 h. The time of entry for visitors is until 17:30 h, who may remain in the museum and explore its various areas until 18:00 h.
Description: 
The Museum of Exploration Rudolph Amandus Phillipi on Isla Teja, dedicated to the German explorer Rudolph Amandus Philippi, exhibits watercolors, drawings, photographs, studies and correspondence, as well as botanical species, furnitures and scientific objects from the nineteenth century, all of which through valuable heritage collections illustrate the importance of the naturalists in the emergence of science in Chile, the importance of scientific and historical collections and the birth of museums. It is housed in the Schuller House, located in the Culture and Arts Campus of University Austral of Chile.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Admission: 
Depends on exhibition; otherwise for adults: 1500 CLP, students and seniors (65+): 800 CLP.
Opening Times: January 7 to February 28 Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 h and 16.00 to 20.00 h.
Description: Located in Los Laureles s/n on IslaTeja and on the ruins of the former Brewery of Valdivia. The building is located on the banks of the river Calle-Calle in Valdivia. The museum houses all those expressions proper of contemporary art in local, regional, national and international, either permanent or temporary exhibitions in the fields of painting, graphics, sculpture, video art, multimedia and art installations. It has permanent exhibitions throughout the year. From its location you may capture panoramic views of the city.
