Urban Park "El Bosque"
Location: Simpson Avenue up to the number 300. Barrio El Bosque.
History of the park: The Urban Park Forest is a private protected area, an ecological reserve, located right in the city of Valdivia, in the Barrio El Bosque, whose owner, Socovesa, has left as a contribution to the conservation, protection and restoration of our native species of flora and fauna. Since 2004 it is administered and managed by the Ecological Lemu Lahuén Committee.
The committee was created in the interest of a group of residents concerned about the environment and manage the administration of the Urban Park Forest, promote conservation and develop in the diverse activities of conservation, environmental education and cultural activities.
Features: The surface of the park covers an area of 13 hectares open to the public and comprises an area of native forest and other wetlands. The vegetation is mainly composed of species such as oak (Nothofagus obliqua), olivillo (Aextoxicon punctatum), coigüe (Nothofagus dombeyi), myrtle (Luma apiculata), lingue (Persea lingue), laurel (Laurelia sempervirens), Chequén (Luma Chequén - Myrceugenia parvifolia), Petra (Myrceugenia exsucca), cinnamon (Drymis winteri), maqui (chilensis), coralito (granadensis Nertera), Pelu (Sophora mycrophilla), Maitén (Maytenus boaria) quilquil or beef rib fern (Blechnum chilense) copihue (Lapageria rosea) which is the national flower of Chile, among others. The fauna is mainly represented by birds such as ASK (Plumbeous Rail), cachudito (Tufted Tit-Tyrant), Owl (Tyto alba), trust-lenge (Elaenia albiceps), widow (Colorhamphus parvirostris) rayadito (Aphrastura spinicauda) sietecolores (Tachuris rubrigastra) colilarga (Sylviorthorhyncus desmursii), employee (Phleocryptes melanops) Trile (Crhysomus thilius) for amphibians like the big frog Chile (Caudibervera caudibervera) and the frog mask (Batrachyla taeniata), reptiles such as the short-tailed snake (Tachymensis chilensis), crustaceans such as shrimp hualve (Parastacus nicoletti), gastropods like Pancho snail (Plectostylus marie) and an interesting variety of fungi and insects.
Infrastructure: The park has an infrastructure consisting of a network of trails, bridges over wetlands, a veranda, drinking water, an administration office and multipurpose room "La Semilla". In addition, the Urban Forest Park has a recycling sector, where neighbors can carry plastic bottles, glass and aluminum cans for recycling.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday (summer) 9:00 to 20:00 hrs. Winter 9:00 to 17:30 hrs. Closed Monday. Input Cost: Adults $ 1000; Children and Students $ 500.
