Arboretum (Fundo Teja Norte)
Location: To get there you must cross the Pedro de Valdivia bridge to Isla Teja, followed by Los Robles Avenue and turn right on Calle Manuel Agüero.. Continue until late Fundo Teja Norte and move 100 meters.
Arboretum History: The origins of the Arboretum of the Austral University of Chile date back to 1971.
Features: Includes an area of 54 hectares consisting mainly valdiviano temperate forest, and to a lesser extent by the collection of exotic and native species. The arboretum near the Fundo Teja Norte remain the best example of natural environments Valdivian jungle. In it we find small pockets of primary forest, with copies of coigüe and oak centuries old, accompanied by olivillo, laurel and lingue maintaining their dynamic natural regeneration along with myrtle, hazel, radales, avellanillos, notros and thousands other species native to the Valdivian forest. The presence of excellent examples of swamp forest, dominated by Temu, pitra and cinnamon.
Its high degree of naturalness, along with its proximity to other fragments of primary forest across the river crossings, makes it an ecological corridor that allows the presence of communities own extensive forest birds, like the Magellanic woodpecker, concón, Comesebo or huedhued. The park maintains reproductive numerous native species of amphibians and insects, such as Cantabria and the tallies, which are unique to the Valdivia forest populations. Although it has not been recorded, it is likely the presence of pudú and huiña cat, along with other species of mammals whose footsteps they can be easily observed, as the red fox or skunk. The arboretum along with Fundo Teja Norte protect the banks of the Cruces River on a broad sector, so it is a privileged for playing swans, coots and other waterfowl species space.
Admission: Freed; the Arboretum is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm and admission is free.
The Arboretum has trails to pan and can arrange guided tours Tuesday through Sunday. Approx. 1½ hours Departures: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., has a cost of $ 2,000 per person.
Please do not damage vegetation or taking samples, the Arboretum has nurseries that reproduce most plants and can be agreed with management to acquire some of them.
