Submarine O’Brien

Submarine O'Brien was built in 1971 in Scotland at the request of the Chilean Navy, arriving to the city of Punta Arenas on August 10, 1976. After 25 years of service it was discharged on December 31, 2001, and then it was acquired by the Municipality of Valdivia to turn it into a Museum. As of 2010, the submarine O'Brien is the second of the Oberon class that still remains afloat in the world and is one of the three submarines that are preserved intact in South America as a museum.

Visiting the Museum Submarine O'Brien is a unique experience in the life of every person, since the submarine reconverted into a museum gives all visitors the chance to internalize the reality faced daily by the crew, especially when sailing under the sea for long periods of time.

Location: Prat Av. at the corner of San Carlos St. on Costanera Avenue.

Visiting hours: Tuesday to Sunday. Guided tours at the following times:

Morning: 10:30 to 11:00 h, 11:20 to 12:00 h, 12:10 to 12:50 h.
Afternoon 15:00 to 15:40 h, 15:50 to 16:30 h, 16:40 to 17:20 h, 17:30 to 18:10 h.
