Botanical Garden

Description: The Austral University of Chile is located on Isla Teja, vocational training center and research with great prestige, was founded in 1953 and currently has 10 faculties. Botanical Garden: It is a beautiful Garden Park, located within the University, was created in 1955 by the first Rector and one of the founders of the Universidad Austral de Chile, Don Eduardo Morales Miranda scientific purposes, provide orderly a sample several native species of flora of southern Chile, and become the benchmark of the endemic flora of the country and a showcase of the world's flora. It has more than 950 species in its 10 hectares spread over several sections: Garden Mirtáceas, Proteaceae, communities of Central Chile, Magellan forest, medicinal plants, conifers and Chilean Valdivian Forest. His collections of living plants are sorted according to scientific criteria, under appropriate culture systems and individually recorded and classified. Trees stand like mañío, coihue, oaks, shrubs and plants (native and exotic). It is located along the banks of the Rio Cau Cau.

The UACh Botanical Garden has developed many scientific research activities throughout its history. At present, given its renewal process, initiate new research programs on the floristic diversity of the country, conservation and ecosystem restoration.
