Lanco

Description: Lanco is the gateway to the region of Los Rios, is located 65 km. northeast of Valdivia, being surrounded by mountains. Because of its location, Lanco is a service center, basing its economy on agriculture and forestry.

Lanco, in the indigenous language, means standing water (Lan: arrested - Co: water).

This commune is the gateway to explore the mountain lakes called the Seven Lakes: Panguipulli, Pirehueico, Neltume, Pellaifa, Calafquén Riñihue and Pullinque.

Geographical Limits: Lanco is part of the 12 communes that make up the Region of the Rivers, reaching 67 km. of the province and regional capital Valdivia. Limits the north with the Commune Loncoche (Araucania Region), south to San Jose de la Mariquina and Máfil, east and west Panguipulli is reunited with the Commune and Loncoche Mariquina.

Population: According to the official 2002 census, the population of the district reached 15,107 inhabitants, the population density reached 28.37 hab / km2, corresponding to 68.72% of the urban population, while the remaining 31.27% to rural population.
